Royal Canin Doggy Spa Giveaway Clarification

Calling all friends

Royal Canin giveaway

Hello everyone! This is Flower! I haven’t written for a while. In fact, Mom usually hogs the computer. I just got on here and realized that we really need to update my picture! I am much prettier now.

Anyway, why I am writing is because Dottie, Flower, Nigel, and I are concerned about our first ever raffle, the Royal Canin Doggy Day Spa Pack giveaway. We let Mom write up the information, and we think she got it wrong the first time, so we have been coaching her.

First of all, we know that the spa package comes with X-SMALL dog food, but we want to make sure our friends know that they don’t have to be X-SMALL to enter the raffle. None of us shih tzus here are x-small. Well, Candy is kind of small and Nigel is kind of small, but they would need to lose some weight to be x-small. And Candy seems skinny enough! Now, Dottie is really a different subject. I think she’s almost a medium, but she’s sensitive about her weight and doesn’t want to talk about it. I think I’m perfect!

So, now that I have clarified that you don’t have to be x-small to enter, we want all of our friends to please, please enter the contest! After all, who doesn’t want free stuff!! Also, Mom asked people to talk about why their dog deserves to be pampered. Excuse me! We expect our dog friends to enter themselves! So, that means that if they want to, and only if they want tom they should tell us why THEY deserve to be pampered. Their Humans don’t have to speak for them!

Please, please, all of our Twitter friends, come by and enter! Mom doesn’t have many Twitter friends, so we want to show her how supportive ours are by entering our giveaway contest.

Yummy food

Now I am going to give you our opinion of the gift. We LOVE the food. The only problem is that Mom never gives us enough. Now, I can tell you that none of us like baths, so none of us like shampoo, but we do think it smells pretty. Mom says it’s “tropical,” whatever that means. We would have loved to get a few bones or treats in there, but oh well. We know Mom liked everything in the box, so at least she is happy.

mothers day

That gives me an idea!!! Mothers Day is next month. So, why don’t you guys and gals all enter the prize to enter it for your Mom!

So, now that we’ve straightened thinks out, please follow this link to the rafflecopter!!!!

Shih Tzu Day 213: Jan. 28 (Sat.)

It’s amazing how the holidays combined with technology issues can throw a schedule out of whack. For example, I have been looking at Candy for days, thinking how badly she needed grooming.

Today was finally the day. We sat her on the grooming table, and she was relatively calm. She did try to pull her paws away from John a few times. Also, she is very afraid of loud noises, and I accidentally knocked the box holding some grooming supplies on the floor; she jumped and tried to scramble off the table. We finally calmed her down enough to continue grooming her.

She had a lot of mats under her hair. The other dogs weren’t that matted, but they don’t lay under the trailer in the dirt and mud like our tomboy shih tzu does. As a result, it took a lot longer than normal to get her in shape. We actually didn’t finish grooming her, although we probably got about three quarters of a way there. She was shaking a little, so we figured we should get her in the sink and get her washed.

She did well in that area too. She is terrified of the blow dryer, and since it took a long time to groom her, we decided to skip the blow dryer and just towel dry her the best we could.

I gave all the dogs some thin slices of Buddig turkey after we finished grooming her. Candy usually hangs back and waits her turn, but either she was very hungry or the grooming had her wound up, because she was acting like Nigel and trying to grab the turkey I was handing to the others. Later, she ran around frantically for a while. We cut her fur very short, so it was probably hard for her to get used to being naked.

I tried to keep her inside to keep her clean for a while, but she slipped out the screen door when I opened it. As I feared, she headed right for the trailer.

Shih Tzu Day 209: Old Shih Tzu Habits

Old shih tzu habits die hard

Candy started barking at 4. John turned the flashlight on and pointed it down the stairs to get her to stop. She started again about 5. I ignored it and stayed in bed until 6, when Dottie started whining.

I am learning that just because the shih tzus are getting better, it doesn’t mean that old habits won’t resurface. Flower, Dottie and Nigel often go into the spare room with me when I have to use my backup PC. They wander around, try to find things to chew on, or just sit there and wait for me. No one had been pooping or peeing on the carpet, so I stopped barricading the door during other times of the day. But this morning when I glanced in the room, I saw that someone had done number one and number two. The barricade has gone up again.

When I went downstairs to get laundry, I heard Flower coming down the stairs. I walked out of the laundry room and started to cheerily say, “Hello, Flower!” but then saw her squatting on the floor. She was mid-stream when I hollered her name! Sigh.

shih tzus in need of grooming

I hate to admit it, but the dogs haven’t been groomed since the end of December. We have to catch up, so we decided to bathe one dog and do some grooming on as many as we could. John groomed Nigel’s face and trimmed up his paws and cut his toe nails. He did the same with Dottie and Flower. He was having trouble with the clippers, and I think that’s why he cut one of Flower’s toe nails too short. She was being very good, but that frightened her. Still, she was so much better than the days when she would poop on the table whenever we sat her on it. She just pulled her paw away, but then let us do the grooming on her face.

Dottie wasn’t quite as good, but, again, not nearly as bad as she used to be. I noticed this morning that she appears to have dog dandruff, so we decided she would be the one to get bathed. I have to keep an eye on that and figure out if something is causing it, besides the fact that she hadn’t had a bath for a few weeks.

Shih Tzu Day 179: First Christmas with the Shih Tzus

Christmas morning grooming for the shih tzus

I got up at about 6 a.m. and finished wrapping presents. I got the stockings together for Dottie, Flower, Candy and Nigel. I put a stuffed animal and a lot of treats into each one. I added a light-up ball to Candy’s stocking. I don’t know which shih tzus might play with it, but I thought it was cute.

three shih tzus with Christmas stockings. We had quiche and mimosas for our Christmas breakfast when John got up. Then, we got prepared to groom the shih tzus. We decided that Candy and Nigel didn’t need trimming, but we gave them baths. Candy was very still and we bathed her quickly, but Nigel squirmed constantly, so he took longer. He was a little better with the blow dryer. Flower and Dottie were very good, both during the grooming, their baths and drying.

After they were dry, we put Nigel in his Grinch outfit and the female shih tzus in their dog dresses. I swapped the red and white dresses Flower and Dottie wore when Deb took their pictures, but left Candy in the one with candy canes and ornaments. I thought we had a couple of hours to take some pictures with their new collars and dog tags and stockings, and to just spend some time with the shih tzus, but my stepdaughter called to say they wanted to come over early. We ended up hurrying to get pictures done and the living room cleaned up. We did get some cute pictures of the dogs with their Christmas stockings.

To add to the chaos, Flower must have been nervous because at some point, she relieved herself on the couch. She did it on a very furry throw, and it puddled on it. I was surprised but happy that it hadn’t reached the couch, but it did when I tried to move it. I threw the throw and the cushion cover in the laundry, so when company started arriving, I had to grab a different throw and cover the foam cushion.

Christmas guests

a shih tzu and a rawhide candy cane. Candy always seems the most nervous around guests, so I took her upstairs and sat her near our closet before anyone arrived. When Candace and her family arrived, the other two female shih tzus ran to Shih Tzu Central. While we waited for the other family members to show up, we sat around the dining room table talking. Dottie and Flower eventually made their way across the room to the dining room corner where Candy’s dog bed is. They didn’t socialize with the guests, but I think they wanted to be near me. They stayed there the whole time we sat there talking.

I brought Candy back downstairs later and sat her in Shih Tzu Central. I am trying to get the shih tzus all used to people, so I picked up Flower, Candy and Dottie at different times and held them for a while as I talked to different people. Nigel is usually Mr. Sociable Shih Tzu, but he wasn’t as people friendly as normal. It could be that he is not feeling well. He was panting on the bed last night. He could have just been hot.

The female shih tzus got back to normal quickly after everyone left. I took some of the rawhide treats out of their stockings, like the lollipops and gingerbread men, and spread them around. They were all chewing on them and on the rawhide candy canes, so I guess they liked them.

Shih Tzu Day 130: Daylight Saving Shih Tzus

two shih tzus on a bed. an extra shih tzu in our bed

I decided to see if Candy would sleep with us. I told Flower and Dottie goodnight and Nigel, John, Candy and I went upstairs. Candy’s shih tzu sisters must have been curious, because they came upstairs a little later. I had set Nigel and Candy on the bed, and Flower and Dottie came to the edge of it. Candy became queen of the mountain. She leaned over the bed and growled at her sisters.

Candy didn’t attempt to jump down, like Dottie does, so I turned off the light to see what she would do. She stayed on the side of me, where I had set her. Nigel was laying between John and I, which is where he tends to lay, unless I move him. I fell asleep right away, but I woke up in the middle of the night. I’m a tosser, but when I went to turn over, there was no where to turn. Candy and Nigel were as close as bookends, and since they were on the bedspread, that made it even harder to turn. I woke up several times during the night, but tried to stay on one side as long as possible.

no Daylight Savings for the shih tzus

I awoke to Dottie’s moaning outside the door. The problem was that they were an hour early. We s

et the clocks last night for Daylight Savings. The furry alarm clocks didn’t recognize the hour change, so they came upstairs at their regular time.

Since I hadn’t slept well, John volunteered to get up and see if the shih tzus would let him feed them. It went well, except Dottie resisted going outside.

I asked John if Flower and Dottie tried to steal Candy’s food. He said they came over to check her bowl out, but Candy has figured out how to keep the other female shih tzus away from her food. She keeps her face in her bowl until she finishes eating!

All the shih tzus ran to greet me when I got up. We decided three of the shih tzus needed grooming: Nigel, Dottie and Flower. Flower was the best when it came to

bathing and trimming. Dottie wasn’t too bad, but Nigel fought us again. We need a very deep sink for him, because he fights so hard to crawl out of ours.
