Shih Tzu Day 149: The Shih Tzus Get a Break from Company

they’re gone, at last!

two shih tzus in a dog bed.Sleeping on my sofa sleeper for the first time was quite an experience. I didn’t think it was comfortable at all, although John said he didn’t mind it. Once company had all gone upstairs, the shih tzus came out of the “tent” I had made them to see why we were invading their living room.

It took a while to get to sleep, but I finally did and slept fitfully until the shih tzus started stirring at 5:30. I jumped up to feed them, hoping they wouldn’t disturb John and that I could get a little more sleep after they settled back down. When I lay back down, all the shih tzus came up to visit my side of the sleeper.

I couldn’t get Dottie to come up, but Flower jumped up and lay beside me for a while. I finally fell back to sleep and didn’t get up until after 8:30. Flower was back on the floor when I got up. Candy kept going up to John for him to pet her.

Flower immediately started growling. Eventually, though, they just went back to huddling in their corner. I spent a little time with them while Heather went to pick up my mother and Herman and the boys went to see his family. Heather and Mom came back and got me and we went to lunch and to find Heather a coat. It wasn’t a typical Black Friday for me, because I didn’t spend a penny. Heather and her family left at 4 to go visit other relatives, so the dogs had the house to themselves again!

Candy has decided that she likes the faux leather dog bed I bought Nigel from TJ Maxx. While he was preoccupied, she went over and investigated, looked around to see if anyone was going to stop her, and then crawled in for an afternoon nap.

Shih Tzu Day 135 (Nov. 11): Shih Tzu Shopping

in search of the perfect shih tzu treat

two shih tzus scuffling. People don’t seem to agree on rawhide and dogs. Petsmart has a whole aisle devoted to rawhide, but I know a lot of people don’t think rawhide is good for dogs. I don’t know enough about it, but I am trying new things to avoid giving them rawhide all the time. Today I bought a product called DreamBones made with dried chicken breasts and a bunch of other ingredients that might or might not be bad for them. I bought them once before, but I didn’t remember if the shih tzus liked them. Dottie and Flower liked them. I think Nigel took Candy’s.

a <em/><em>shih tzu</em> at a door.I have also been on a search for the best bully stick brand. The female shih tzus didn’t like the Cadet bully sticks I got from Costco, although I think Nigel will eat anything. They were too big anyway. They were meant for larger dogs, so John had to saw them into three pieces. I got a small package from Walmart to try again, because the girls liked them the last time I bought them. I have a feeling that in a taste test the Walmart one would win, which is too bad, since the big bag at Costco is more economical.

the shih tzu couch defiler

While I was out, Flower peed on the couch. At least I assume it was Flower. It was John’s side of the couch this time. I pulled the cushion off and soaked the spot with cleaner and the marking spray. While it was on the ground, Nigel decided it was his new dog bed and climbed up on it to chew on a bully stick.

Nigel does need a better dog bed. I guess the one from Ross doesn’t have enough stuffing. Maybe that is why he drags it around. He might be just driving to rearrange its innards. I did buy him another one from Ross to try.

shih tzu holiday clothes

I bought the girls a black and pink checked dress with velcro on the neck and tummy from TJ Maxx. I wanted to dress Dottie, Candy and Flower up at triples some time during the holiday, and I found these adorable little red and green dog dresses with candy canes and other Christmas decorations and fur at the bottom at Ross. I found the same print at Target, but with extra fur, so I bought it for one of them. The red and green dress was eight dollars at Walmart but five dollars at Ross, so that extra fur really adds to the price!

Shih Tzu Day 13: The Magic Mesh Commercial

The Magic Mesh curtain commercial really get these shih tzus  going. They leap up and rush in unison out of their pen, expectantly looking around, whenever they hear the dog barking on there. I think they think their doggy friends have come to visit. My guess is they are thinking about Barbara’s dogs, including Zack, the Rottweiler, and the foster Pekingese Peek-a-boo.

Candy and flower on couchCandy decided to join Flower on her couch today.

Candy decided to climb up on Flower’s couch with her today. They looked so cute. I couldn’t get them to look up at the same time for a good picture. I have to figure out how to work my dog whistle so I can get their attention for photo moments. You wouldn’t think it would be so hard, but the directions say I have to fine tune it to their ears while they sleep. I haven’t experimented yet to see if they are on the same “frequency.”

Someone used the training pad I put under the table. Good! I also went in search of a steam vacuum. We never had one while we had Joey, but we needed one. Of course, it was a chore to figure out which I wanted. I started out on the way to Wal-Mart to see if they had a Hoover Steamvac Clean Surge or Silver, but I ended up getting a Bissell Proheat 2X from Costco, because it said it also did hard wood floors. Reviews looked good on both of them.

Flower with her newspaperFlower was interested in the newspaper I bought her just long enough to help me remove the tag.

I went to TJ Maxx while I was out and bought the girls a play newspaper. Flower played with it for a few minutes. I can’t wait until I find the perfect toy that they will like. Joey never played with toys, so I hope they do. Basically, what they like playing with most is just each other or my hand!
